First of all, I gave this product four stars because, frankly, it is what it says it is and it does what it says it can do. I can’t really fault the product because I was an idiot and thought I could use them.

The tongs are small (as can be seen in the picture). They are easy to use. However, they are absolutely and completely unnecessary for the making of waffles. I am actually able to pull the waffles off my waffle maker with my fingers more quickly.

They do, admittedly, look like a neat thing hanging from my waffle maker handle, so I guess if you want your waffle maker to look like it means business, buying these inexpensive tongs isn’t the worst way to throw out your money. However, if you’re actually trying to find a convenient tool for removing waffles from the waffle iron when they’re done, look no further than the fork section of your silverware drawer.

I make over thousands of waffles each year at home, and never needed help with a tong before. When I saw this, I got interested due to curiosity (I love novelty gadgets). Under normal situation when waffles come out good, removing is easy with a finger on the exposed side of the waffle. Then I thought the few times that the waffle was sticking onto the iron, could this have helped? So I decided to buy one and try!

Well, the answer is yes and no, depending on the strength of the batter and level of stickiness to the iron. If the waffle doesn’t crumble then this tool can help getting to the sticking surface and pry it out without risking burning my fingers. If the batter is light (for light/crispy waffles), then it won’t help.

So I would treat this as a novelty nice-to-have/nice-to-show tool. For decades people get by without it. BUT, it is really cute!

We did use it for other baking goods where the wall is about couple of inches deep, with good results!

*UPDATE* The tong’s rubber/silicon surface had a long crack. It’s within 30 days so it’s returned to Amazon.

This is one product I wish I had listened to the previous Reviews. In order to grab your Waffle, you must first pick it up with your fingers. In which case, if you already have a grasp on it, why use these in the first place?
