I was offered the WineCubby free to evaluate and test out. The following is what I found when I tested it.

This is an interesting item. It is one of those things that at first glance, you think “Why?” Then, as I began to look at it and think about it, I realized why.

This consists of three parts. There is a teeny funnel that is amply large enough to use for transferring a bottle of wine into the cubby. There is the cubby that has a screw top to keep the wine inside the bag. There is also a bag that is designed to go around the cubby.

Let’s talk semantics for a minute. Pour the wine into the bag.. Sounds easy enough, right? Nope. Add me, a klutz of the first order. Trying to hold the bag, hold the bottle and manage to pour wine into the funnel should have been videotaped. Thankfully, I know that I am less than graceful and I set the cubby in the sink for filling. After I poured about half a cup of wine down the drain, I put the wine cubby in a tall vase for support. Now I could hold the funnel in one hand, the wine bottle in the other and not make a mess. Filled bag. Done.

The outer bag has a very inexpensive zip-lock type of fastener. Air can be squeezed out while it is properly closed. I won’t be relying on this to keep any spilled wine inside, so I am not going to use it. It needs an upgrade to make it easier to seal and needs to seal properly. I do not expect it to last more than a few uses, the seal reminds me of the dollar store storage bags. It’s not really that important for the overall function of the WineCubby.

The uses… Wine, water, juice or even mixed drinks that do not need chilling. This can be taken places where glass is not allowed or wanted, such as around the swimming pool or at the beach. It can be taken on picnics, backpacking or packing by horse/mule back. The only real limit is your imagination. Real wine aficionados will want to skip it because half the point of expensive wine is uncorking, inspecting the cork, verifying the name on the bottle. If you don’t care about that, and just wish to carry your favorite wine along, this is an option.

There is a bit of a bonus here as well. Use an aerator to put your wine into the bottle and presto, you have wine that has breathed and is ready to go when you arrive at your destination. (Don’t leave it packed for days and it will be fine.)

As you can probably tell, I do not drink bottles of wine that cost more than $50 or I wouldn’t be agreeing to cart it around in this WineCubby. I am above Two Buck Chuck and Wine in a Bag (wait, THIS is wine in a bag!) but not in the 25+ year old exclusive stuff either. This WineCubby will suit my needs fine and goes nicely with my set of silicone wine glasses. It can travel to the lake and bounce inside a cooler strapped to a jetski on the way to the distant shore. (Yep, I tested it!)

I know it says for wine. However, I’m not always a drinker. But I am a mom. I always look for products that I can use in different ways. Being a mom on the go and not liking to carry a lot around with me, this is PERFECT for me. I can pour in the juice (non-alcoholic) in this foldable bag with the provided funnel. It holds 25 oz of whatever, so I’m set for the day. The nice part is, I don’t have to have a big bottle to carry around all day. When it gets empty, it folds up super small. I’m so glad I have it. PLUS it helps to save the environment. We make our own juice a lot. So this is a win on so many levels!!!

We travel and live in a fifth wheel full time for work; my partner does canine massage for agility clients who include AKC, USDAA and UKI athletes. We are both wine enthusiast; she drinks red and I like white/blush. Our 5th wheel is not in one location for more than 2 weeks at the most meaning we travel quite often. Living in a 5th wheel and traveling means you try to avoid glass or breakables as often as possible otherwise you are wrapping everything and unwrapping everything when traveling to prevent damage. We use nice acrylic wine glasses as well. We typically purchase our wine from Trader Joes as they have some of the best wines at very affordable prices. Characteristically we open a bottle of wine to enjoy while cooking or sitting around with people in the campsites or agility trials. Any unused wine left in the bottle is not a problem if we are staying another night however if we are traveling then this can be a problem due to the bottle being open and red wine doesn’t go in the refrigerator. I am always afraid of the red wine spilling on the carpet or countertops and leaving that all too familiar wine stains. When I was ask to review the “Wine Cubby” in exchange for my unbiased opinion I jumped at the opportunity.
Once I received the Wine Cubby I was excited as we had an unfinished bottle of wine and we were leaving the same day to travel to a different work site so I had the opportunity to try out my new Wine Cubby. I was pleased at how easy this product is to use. The Wine Cubby comes with a collapsible funnel, a Wine Cubby (the actual bag that you pour the wine into) and a decorative carrying bag. I poured the unused wine into the Wine Cubby and placed it on a nonskid mat on top of a towel (I just wanted to make sure if it leaked or the bag didn’t hold I had something to catch the wine before it dripped onto the carpet). To my surprise when we go to our destination I immediately checked the Wine Cubby and nothing has leaked and the bag held the wine! That evening we used the remainder of the wine that I had stored in the Wine Cubby and it taste great. The bag does not alter the taste in any way and it kept the wine fresh as if we had poured it out of the original bottle. When the Wind Cubby was empty I simply ran some water into the bag and drained it (I did this a couple of times) and stood it up to dry for use again in a few days when we leave out again.
The Wind Cubby is a great alternative to taking a glass bottle and the design is very attractive. It doesn’t look like just a plastic bag. The Wine Cubby carrying bag can also be used to carry a bottle of wine. This would make a great gift for anyone who enjoys drinking wine. The Wine Cubby would also be great for taking to the pool in the evenings as most pools ask you not to take glass into the pool area for fear of breakage. The Wine Cubby will work well with our acrylic wine glasses next summer.
I would recommend the Wine Cubby to all wine enthusiasts or as a gift to any wine enthusiasts on your shopping list.
