I LOVE the longer legs on this steamer. I’ve twice now poached fish Basquaise (once with trout, once red snapper) and the longer legs let me sit it above the potatoes and vegetables while still steaming the fish perfectly from the stock. I’ve also got tons of kale growing in my garden and this steamer has become a stable for steaming it over white wine. …and it fits perfectly in my favorite pot. Five stars for sure!

Redkitchen stainless vegetable steamer basket collapsible expandable with legs
High quality stainless basket to steam just about anything you want. Collapsed it is about 5″ across, fully expanded it is a little over 9″. Sits up on legs to really circulate the steam better, nice design. Washes up like new in the dishwasher. I threw out my Tupperware 3 piece plastic steamer, I am just not sure about cooking with any plastic anymore, plus it was a chore to clean. This is much better and I expect it will last a very long time. I saw a segment on “The Kitchen” where they suggested using one of thes for an on-ice appetizer tray, you put the cocktail shrimp or whatever on the steamer basket, fill a platter with ice, and put the steamer basket of food right on top of the ice, to keep shrimp chilled but not waterlogged, and it looked really pretty too. I plan on doing that I will post a pic when I do! This basket arrived quickly, well packed, and in a gift worthy box as well. Good purchase.

The Red Kitchen steamer arrived in perfect condition, and the Red Kitchen packaging is beautiful, very worthy as a gift.
I’ve always been a fan of steaming my veges as apposed to boiling since steaming helps to retain more nutrients in the food. The Red Kitchen steamer makes this process very simple because it works with almost all of my existing pots, regardless of the size because this steamer expands and contracts easily.
Additionally, as other reviewers have stated, the Red Kitchen steamer has longer legs than other steamers. This absolutely does matter as you don’t want to run out of water while steaming. Trust me, it’s happened to me before and I ended up throwing out a nicely burned pot.
I found the stainless steel of this steamer to be of a higher quality than other steamers I’ve owned in the past, which helps to justify the price. You won’t have to replace this steamer as quickly as other cheaper steamers out there.
I rate the Red Kitchen steamer 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it!
