The pair of wine pourers look nice and sturdy in the photo and the online video, however, in the hand, these are made of a hard and lightweight plastic that does not make a stellar first impression, even with the stainless accent surrounding the plastic. Intending to use these in a nice Tempranillo, I am very happy I had the foresight to try first in a bottle filled with tap water. The stopper/pourer slid in with ease and I pushed it open by depressing the hinge, but when attempting to pour the water, only little spurts came out and no more. I had to shake the bottle to get the water flowing. Removing and replacing the pourer, opening and closing the hinge, pushing, pulling, on and on until I decided to remove it and try the second one. Fortunately, this one provided a perfect flow, so half of my pair works well and I will be able to fill glasses with the Tempranillo. I would not count on these to really keep out air from an opened bottle of wine because with each closed tightly, water slipped through when I held the bottle upright. I will use the one that works well only in a bottle of wine I intend to use over a day or two because I can’t pump the air out of the bottle with the pourer inserted. I will use the second one that does not work well in a bottle of olive oil since for that I don’t need a quick or even flow. I can not recommend these for their intended purpose because I do not think they are quite there yet, perhaps because it is a new design for Metrokane. I was disappointed and would say that it rates 3 stars for the sum of both pieces.

My initial impression was that these are rather cheaply made. This was confirmed when one broke almost immediately.

There is a little “switch” that is supposed to lock to keep the wine sealed. In attempting to lock it on one of the stoppers, the switch broke off. The other works fine though. I usually think of Metrokane as a company that produces elegant, high-quality wine accessories. These stoppers have neither of those qualities.

By contrast, I have used a similar device from OXO that works much better and is much more solidly constructed.

I like that the wine pourer fits snugly in the mouth of the bottle.

I like that it is easier to insert than a used cork when there is leftover wine.

I like that it has a little valve to keep air from entering the bottle.

But when I turned the bottle upside down, I got a tiny drip, drip, drip from that very same valve that was supposed to be sealing it shut. Which means air was getting in.

And so, alas, only three stars for what I thought would be an extremely cool product.
