I didn’t get mine at Amazon. Picked it up at a Target store last week for $19.99. It’s the same price at Target.com so, I don’t get this $39.99 price here. It’s nicely made. Outside is very sturdy looking and the non stick coating on the iron is made of ceramic and looks like a decent quality since nothing stuck and I didn’t even oil it. Anyhow, I’ve made waffles twice already. The bottom iron (at least on this unit) browned more evenly than the top but that was minor. The waffles were very nice. Tender with a slight crisp of a crust. I made mine on the highest setting.

One more thing, the basic recipe in the book was for 6-8 waffles. I customized it to make exactly 2. Perfect amount for my needs..
    2/3C Flour
    1/8 tsp salt
    1 tsp Baking Powder
1 – 2 tsp Sugar (depending on how sweet you like it)
    2 Tablespoons of Oil
    1/3 C Milk
    1 Egg

I have only had this waffle maker for a couple of weeks , but so far I like everything about it. I selected it because It has a non-toxic ceramic coating instead of teflon . In case anybody in the world doesn’t already know this, teflon gives off gasses that kill birds -and I have a bird . So I selected this for its ceramic coating . I was a little uncertain about how the non-stick coating would turn out to be, but it really is non-stick . The appliance comes with a very short electric cord . The handbook explains that this is a safety measure, so the cord won’t hang down and so that people (kids) won’t accidentally pull the thing over on themselves. That seems like a good idea. I have used it twice now to make savory waffles with herbed socca batter . I made several each time and none of them stuck to the waffle maker ,and I cleaned it by wiping it with a soapy paper towel and then rinsing it with a wet towel and drying it .Easy!
Another reviewer mentioned that they couldn’t get the waffles to crisp up ; I don’t want my socca waffles crispy , so that doesn’t matter to me -but I did make a few waffles that were lower-in-fat and I noticed they came out pretty well toasted . If I want to make
toasted waffles instead of soft ones I would use less oil in the recipe. You really don’t need a lot of oil because they really won’t stick.

This is the waffle iron to use if you want to get away from the harmful chemicals that are in most non-stick surfaces. The waffles come out easily with no sticking.
