Does not work better for fruit & kale smoothies than a $39 Oster blender, September 2, 2013

This item was touted highly by others to chop up anything. I do fruit smoothies for breakfast, and add a cup of chopped kale to make it healthy.

This item has not done one bit better job of chopping than my previous Oster blender that I bought on sale for $29.
You have to use baby kale or the kale comes out in tiny chunky bits whose texture ruins the smoothie. Hardly smooth.
It’s also bigger and bulkier for storage and use. If you take the lid off to pour, the blades will pour right out, if you have to turn it up to pour the entire contents out. The one I bought does come with an extra cup you can use and take and carry with you. The cup I use has a straw and is much easier to use than this one that came with it, that you blend and take and drink all from the same cup. Some people like it, but I don’t use it.

Save your money unless you’re making more than smoothies. Don’t spend the money. Its $100 I could have saved. Now you can too.

    I would not recommend, February 3, 2014

I will start by saying that I had a Ninja for about four years before I bought this one and it was amazing. I used it almost everyday and it couldn’t have worked better. Due to normal wear and tear I decided it was time to buy a new one. The box claimed it was strong enough to even knead dough. Not only is this a lie, it’s joke-able. All I use my ninja for is fruit smoothies and making falafel ( which is just a cooked bean patty) and this product will not work for me. It pushes the food to the sides of the blender while the blade spins in the middle without processing the food.

To add insult to injury the customer service I have received has been the most frustrating experience in recent years. The advisors will lie to you and tell you what you want to hear while doing something else. Ive been told they were sending me a “stronger base” in the mail, but when I received the base not only was it the exact same one i had It didn’t even work!! Then, after speaking with the next rep, she let me know you can’t even use a stronger base with the same blender. I was then told I would be sent a new blade because possibly mine was damaged. When I received the blade in the mail it was some sort of plastic piece and not a blade at all. I’ve been told twice a supervisor wasn’t available but would call me back in twenty fours hours; both times were lies. I have never heard back from a supervisor.

I’m really disappointed because I loved my original ninja blender so much and can’t even use the new one for basic easy things. I don’t make a lot of money and the 80 dollars I spent on the blender (that I planned on using almost every day) is a big loss to me. The last advisor I spoke to told me they can’t refund my money or upgrade me, that was the merchants responsibility. However, I now cannot take it back where I bought it because I waited to long thinking Ninja would fix the problem because of how willing they were to send me replacement parts. I’m not trying to get something for nothing I only want a product that will work.

It does not have the capacity or blend-ability needed for my smoothies with flax seeds, kale and fruit. I’ve been working with it because I invested but even the base is cracked at the handle – in less than 20 uses. I’m so disappointed. I don’t recommend it.

Rivals the Vitamix, at one-fifth the cost, November 8, 2014

This is a GREAT blender that rivals my much more expensive Vitamix. I’ve taken a break from my Vitamix 5200, which retails for 5 times the cost of this blender, to test this one out for a week. I love it! It gives my Vitamix a run for the money. Here are some observations:

For chopping, this blender is impressive. It looks so much like a food processor that I tried chopping an onion, and got acceptable results. I would absolutely use this for that. (The Vitamix can’t do this at all.)

For ice crushing, YES! Yes, yes, yes. Snow in blazingly fast time. Sno-cones, margaritas, whatever, this blender has that application covered. Fantastic results, far better than the Vitamix.

For pulverizing, I thought it was very good. This was the area that the Vitamix outshone the Ninja, but I think the Ninja did just fine. In my homemade jalapeño-coleslaw dressing, the blender didn’t quite get all the jalapeño pulverized, and there were little chunks still in the dressing. The Ninja had a little trouble pulverizing 2 large bunches of kale, and I had to stop the blender a few times to use a scraper to push the leaves down. I also needed to add some water to aid in the blending. The leaves ended up rather smoothly pulverized, although I don’t think they were quite as fine as in the Vitamix.

I love how the blades remove completely from the pitcher every single time; it not only makes it easier to scrape out all the food from the blender but also to get it perfectly clean. The Vitamix always ends up with food stuck under the blades, and if it’s something like hummus, it’s really hard to get it clean. So the design on the blades in the Ninja is brilliant. Be careful, though: those blades are sharp. I managed to to slice my hands open on two separate occasions while trying to put them in or take them out of the dishwasher.

Seriously, having tried this blender, I can’t see recommending that anyone spend the extra money for a Vitamix. This is a really nice blender.

This is the second Ninja I’ve owned (the other is the Master Prep set), and I have to say that it’s a great product. My previous blenders had been older cheap Osters, which didn’t do near the job that this one does. First, I love the multiple blades. Why someone didn’t think of this earlier – I don’t know. It’s handled everything I’ve thrown at it without any complaints. Smoothies (including crushing ice), soups, tomato sauce, quick salsas. Warning – it’ll quickly liquefy solids. That’s a positive, but if you’re not careful it could quickly become a negative. Example, I was making a quick puree-style salsa (tomatos, jalapenos, onions, garlic, cilantro). I put the ingredients in in larger pieces, turned it on for a while longer than I should have (longer in seconds, not longer in minutes) and what came out was a nearly consistent liquid. Tasted good, but was pretty hard to keep on the chips! My wife uses it daily for smoothies. She uses frozen bananas, frozen blueberries, protein powder, and yogurt/milk/juice – sometimes ice. The previous blender couldn’t handle this chore, at all. The Ninja laughs at this task. Smooth, well-integrated, and quick. The best part – it’s dishwasher safe. Highly recommended, well worth the cost (which is a fraction of the other “professional” blenders out there)

Reasonable Performance but not Professional Performance, November 7, 2014

    A. L. W. (Birmingham, AL USA) –

This is a really good looking product. Fits under your counter and does a reasonable job for average applications. I have owned a variety of smoothie makers, and blenders at every price point. What I noticed is that blenders that have a stick blade, fail to really pulvertize the food. Because there are a number of blades on the stick, it seems like it’s going to grind your food up really well. However, I did not find that because the machine didn’t have the power handle an ultra smooth puree.

Ultra smooth purees is quality I was looking for. I like to make Spinach smoothies. I placed my frozen fruits and liquid in and then attempted to add my spinach. Because of the blades being so high up, I struggled to get the spinach down into the machine. Even if you place the spiniach in first, the side blades make it difficult to get them down in the blender. Once the machine running, after several attempts I realized that my smoothie was not going to liquefy completely so it’s texture was rather grainy to the taste although it looked smooth.

Additionally I did not find the handle comfortable, and making sure everything was locked and clicked into place was an added nuisance. I also fear these plastic lid parts are going to break off soon. It was easy to clean up, but for heavy (daily) use, I don’t think this is going to work out. I liked the product generally but i’m rather underwhelmed by it’s lack of power. As a baker I also do a lot of nut and fruit purees and this machine isn’t going to cut that. I think calling this a Professional Blender is a marketing name because this machine isn’t capable of giving professional results. Yes, it chops ice, but if you are looking to blend your things into ultra smooth purees, this machine falls short.
