I was looking for a small-ish deep fryer for me and my boyfriend. I wanted something cheap but good because I didn’t know exactly how much I would use it. We don’t have a lot of counter space, so size was an issue.

I saw this one on Amazon about a week ago for $29.99. The price was perfect but it only had a handful of reviews so I was skeptical. All the reviews were positive though, so I took a chance and ordered it.

This thing is pretty much perfect for our needs. The temperature control is accurate, the heating coils are in the oil as opposed to under the unit (this is good, because a crumb layer on the latter kind will make it even harder for your oil to stay the temperature it’s supposed to), it came with a nice basket with a collapsible handle. It fits on my countertop and is comparable in size to my Keurig and my Kitchenaid stand mixer. It has a removable layer for easier cleaning. The lid fits as snugly as you would want it to. The basket even has a little catch so it can rest on the edge of the unit and drain your food.

Therein lies the only problem I have with this unit and it’s incredibly easy to remedy. When it’s filled to the max fill line and the basket is hanging on the edge of the unit, there is a slight bit of overlap between the basket and the oil. Which makes it basically impossible to really drain your food, because about 1/4th an inch of your food is still hanging in hot oil. In the future I won’t fill it quite to the fill line. Besides, if you cook your food at a high and accurate temperature, there isn’t a lot of oil content left on your food. It seemed somewhat counter-intuitive to me, but it’s completely true. $30 was an absolute steal for this, I would have gladly paid more knowing now just how well it works.

We just purchased this and I have to say we are very surprised of how good it works for the price we paid. First test, we did some cheese sticks from the freezer and it cooked them very fast at 375 and weren’t very oily tasting. Our next test was frozen French fries and chicken wings. We cooked the fries first and were very surprised they snapped when we broke one in half and I have to say they were great tasting with just a tad of salt. The wings were frozen and cooked in about 10 minutes and all we did was season them a little and they were good, crunchy on the outside and cooked perfectly inside. Recovery time was excellent on the temperature!

After that test, I did one other with a thermometer, and with it set at 375, it read 375.5 which is almost perfect. I cannot say that for the Delonghi Roto fryer which maxed out at 355, not even close to the 375 temperature setting. That was almost 70 dollars more in price also and of course I returned it.

Cleaning up is easy with everything being thrown in to the dish washer besides the heating element and controller. All we did, was strain the oil and used a funnel to put the oil back in to its container till next time. I do think next time, I will run the oil through a coffee filter or something finer.

I highly recommend this unit and do not recommend the Delonghi Roto which is a lot of money. I bought the Delonghi through reviews so I really don’t understand. The Presto is a good buy

One final note on the Presto, do not go to max on the oil, I would go half way between low and max so you don’t have any boil overs with frozen food.

I have to say this is the best and most economical Deep Fryer Amazon carries. Its performance is simply professional and on top of its performance is to easy to clean. The thermostat is completely accurate and its great with fried chicken, french fries, cod fritters, yams, etc. No mess in the kitchen, simply, this is a great deep fryer for any of your frying needs. Greatly recommended.
